Riad Tarabel breathes a classic French colonial style into the heart of Marrakech. Located within the old town Medina, it’s historical surroundings make it a stronghold of culture. It is a classic Marrakech mystery of magic that is hidden behind a single door, it’s interior can simply be defined as captivating.

Ten rooms and suites is all Tarabel needs to be able to craft its very own wonderland. In terms of bumping into other guests – you are passing ships in the night, and what a mesmerising, candle-lit night that is. An enchanting choice was made to have no designated restaurant, but instead, have staff on hand to dress a table at any given moment, depending on where guests want to dine for that particular meal of the day. One of our personal favourite spots? The summer lounge. It’s an open terrace, with views that span the courtyard. It’s lined with candelabras which intermittently flickers along to the call to prayer which echoes the medina.

The sense of nature is something that not many riads are able to capture so effortlessly, after all, these riads are set in the very heart of the old city, amongst the chaos of the medina. What you are met with upon entering is a central patio, perfectly manicured, and framed so effortlessly by orange trees. Not only with their own carefully planted shrubbery but their exquisitely oiled wallpaper that flourishes with the vibrancy of a real-life garden. This is one of the most striking and prominent features that you are met with when you enter the building.

Wooden ceiling fans silently swing in the humid Moroccan air – offering even more of a retreat from the humidity that hangs outside. Wonky candlesticks can be found around each corner. Something so very perfect in it’s imperfection. There is an air of mysterious quirkiness in Tarabel – it is not all as it seems. From the grand mirror that at the push of a hidden button, becomes the entrance to their own spa, to closets within the bedrooms that reveal a shower room – one stay would never be enough to unearth the finest details of the place.

It’s the wealthy grandmother’s house that you dreamt of as a child – a life-size dolls house in the sense that it somehow feels soaked in secrets. We implore you to take a visit to Tarabel and drench yourself in its ethereal beauty.
