Where you choose to lay your head is an extension of the city you are visiting, which in Paris’ case includes resplendent townhouses, intimate château boltholes and Art Deco inspired hotels. Saint James Paris
Set within the leafy grounds of a storied private mansion, Saint James Paris is a distinguished château-hotel that offers peerless comfort. The striking property has lived multiple lives befitting of its stature, including the residence of President Adolphe Thiers; in its current existence it serves the dual purpose of private-members club and public-facing hotel. The neoclassical interior is the handiwork of Laura Gonzalez, whose deft touch has uplifted the 50 rooms and shared spaces alike, most notably in the reverential Library Bar.
Château Voltaire
A luxury hideaway in the centre of Paris that manages to achieve the intimacy of a small country château. Château Voltaire falls halfway between the Opéra and Tuileries, occupying an understated corner that remains gracefully aloof from the surrounding Haussmann architecture. Brasserie l’Emil is a glowing gallery that serves elevated and simple fare. In contrast, La Coquille d’Or is a dimly lit and sultry cocktail bar where you can pass a few hours undisturbed.
Hôtel Rochechouart
On the border between Montmartre and Pigalle, Hôtel Rochechouart is suitably stationed for exploring both neighbourhoods, while capturing the essence of Belle Époque Paris. The rooms are modest but smart, with executive rooms or suites offering views of Sacré-Coeur. The hotel has two tricks up its sleeve in the form of its restaurant and rooftop bar. The former serves a brasserie-style menu in a resplendent art deco inspired setting, the latter provides one of the most spectacular views of Paris and a mean cocktail menu to back it up.
