Parisians are passionate about wine, which in course has generated a thriving scene with countless choices for where to drink. Many of which are supremely suited for warm summer evenings, when the notion of nursing a couple of choice glasses of wine on a lively terrace seems like a romantic way to wile away the dusky hours. Or perhaps you fancy sipping a cocktail with a view of Paris’ iconic skyline. Either way there are plenty of options at your disposal, here are just a few of our favourites—you can discover plenty more recommendations in our Paris guide.
Early June
Each evening a queue forms promptly in the half hour preceding the opening of Early June, eagerly eyeing the coveted terrace and open-window seating. A relatively fresh-faced addition to the city’s mature natural wine bar landscape, the bar has become as much renowned for its cuisine with a dynamic kitchen that hosts travelling chefs for periodic residences, allowing an ever-changing menu that is built always with the wine in mind.
Septime La Cave
For an authentic Parisian experience, stake your place standing shoulder-to-shoulder within the pared back premises, or more likely spilling onto the street outside. This cosy cave à manger is part of the Septime family, whose restaurant is just round the corner. Natural wines are served by the glass, alongside small culinary offerings, asper the ‘slate of the moment’ blackboard.
La Buvette
A little off the beaten track you will find this tiny but charming shrine to natural wine. Come to La Buvette to try an eclectic choice of wines from small producers alongside a considered selection of local charcuterie. Arrive after dark to enjoy the atmosphere of this relaxed and intimate space, though seats are scarce so expect to stand—very à la mode of the 11th. Wine must be bought along with something to eat, which is no hardship glancing at the mirrored chalkboard, featuring the crowd-favourite, white beans and lemon zest.
Maggie Rooftop
Make your way to the ninth floor of Hotel Rochechouart to discover the dazzling cocktail bar, Maggie Rooftop. Enjoy a 360° view over Paris, including an up close and personal encounter with the Sacré-Coeur. The cocktail list is considered and well executed, supported by an appealing short menu of bar snacks. It’s worth reserving a table ahead of time, as it can get very lively.
Perruche
A verdant oasis perched atop the Printemps Haussmann department store, Perruche draws flocks of diners and cocktail sippers with its provencal fare and promise of panoramic views over the city. Lunch and dinner sittings are available, as well as the option to visit for just drinks, booking in advance is advised and requesting a table with a view is encouraged (if not always possible).
