Sundays with Seasons, August 30th

“Sunday is the golden clasp that binds together the volume of the week.” Henry Wadsworth Longfellow

Welcome to the very first weekly instalment of ‘Sundays with Seasons’ where we share short but sweet musings from our week.

The perfect accompaniment for a scroll over your morning coffee whilst still under the warmth of your crumpled sheets or for sipping rouge in the afternoon by the fire.

After a Sunday afternoon walking through the sun-dappled side streets and shaded courtyards of our bohemian neighbourhood, El Born, we return to an old favourite, La Vinya del Senyor‘The Lord’s Vine’. A charming little wine bar renowned for its never-ending wine list and unforgettable views of Basílica de Santa Maria.

We occupy a small high table just inside the entrance, nestled under an elegant wrought-iron, spiral staircase for more of an intimate setting away from the busy plaza out front.

We order a bottle of our usual Terras Gauda – Rías Baixas which sits amongst our overly excitable pre-dinner tapas

Of oysters, pa amb tomàquet, a local cheese selection and new potatoes with aioli and paprika.

Commanding the width of the pocket-sized room is a marble-topped, intricately carved wood-panelled bar counter, framed by mustard walls and shelves adorned with wine bottles, white labels daintily dangling from their necks.

“Anni, amori e bicchieri di vino, nun se contano mai.”’ ‘“Years, lovers and glasses of wine; these things must not be counted.”

Anthony Capella

Underfoot, polished terracotta floor tiles reflect the warm glow emitting from the pendant swaying above.

The next hour slips by unnoticed as we sit back, chatting amongst ourselves, glasses clinking merrily as we drink beautiful wine and appreciate the quality, local food. This comfortable scene tempts us to linger even longer, but we swap the high stools for a familiar urge for a candlelit pasta main just around the corner.

Rest in the beauty of Sunday, savour in the sweetness, We encourage you to take us on the journey of your own Sundays, using #Sundayswithseasons
